Advocacy for human rights and a pluralistic system has been a foundational part of Afghanistan Green Trend’s (AGT) mission. We have consistently tried to push beyond the margins of dominant narratives and expose realities in the most professional and polite manner possible. We firmly believe that dignified language carries more weight and influence than name-calling or trolling. As the monitoring team of Afghanistan Green Trend (AGT), we are puzzled by what led this senior UNAMA official to block us on X.
She has set her profile picture to show herself with an aide from Hibatullah’s militia organization — perhaps as a stunt aimed at women in her home country, or to portray herself as experiencing something more exotic than other women. As a paid UN official, she has no right to block any Afghan citizen. Instead, she should remain accountable and responsive to the community she serves.
This behavior from a UN official is disappointing and unprofessional. It offers a clear snapshot of the level of tolerance, inclusivity, and sense of mission within UNAMA, which now appears reduced to little more than an intelligence-gathering outpost. Caged by Hibatullah, UNAMA seems to be caging others in return on social media.
What a pity.
